Why fruits and vegetables?
Weâve all seen ads for the â5 a dayâ campaign that encourages us to eat five servings of fruits and vegetables each day, bet do we understand why it is so important to follow? Did you know that the American Heart Association even recommends eating nine servings each day? This seems a daunting task, but may be moved higher on your priority list if you understand why this is so important.
First, letâs talk about serving sizes. One serving size of fruit could be 1/2 cup cut up fruit, a medium apple or orange, 6 ounces of 100% fruit juice, or 1/4 cup of dried fruit.
