Flu outbreaks – Disaster in the making

Influenza is a common affliction worldwide. In the US, the flu season usually lasts from October to May with peaks in December and January. But of late there has been global dilution of the affliction-period and an alarming rise in the number of flu cases has been observed.



The health experts fear that at this rate, the flu threat might translate into flu pandemic. A pandemic flu outbreak is much more serious than normal flu outbreaks and occurs only a few times each century. Flu pandemic occurs when a new flu virus emerges against which people have little or no immunity and for which there is no vaccine.
