UK Details Plans For National ID Smart Card

UK plans to provide its citizens with national ID smart cards, so that any hassle about their identification can be avoided. On Dec 19, 2006, the UK govt. delivered to its Parliament a sketch of a smart card-based national ID (identity card) that could finally be carried by 60 million citizens of Britain & other foreign nationals staying in England. According to the plan, identity cards will be made compatible with the e-passports being distributed in England and in other parts of the world, and other chip-&-PIN smart cards that banks of UK have issued over the last few years to their credit & debit cardholders.
